Learn about the vital role of women in American History and then play the game \u201cWho am I?\u201d Match the female leader to her symbol. Create your own matching cards, one with the woman\u2019s name and picture, and another with her corresponding symbol. For example, Ruther Bader Ginsberg would be connected to a gavel, Michelle Obama to the White House, Dian Fossey to a gorilla, Marie Curie to a vial, Misty Copeland to ballet shoes, and Sally Ride to a spaceship.<\/p>\n

With this kids\u2019 learning activity, you will explore women\u2019s incredible contributions throughout history and the challenges they faced. Learn about the inspiring journey of Misty Copeland, the first African American woman to become a principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre in New York City; or Sally Ride, the first American woman in space. Women in Science: Eggshell Chalk Science Experiment<\/u><\/p>\n

Can you draw with eggshells? This science experiment will show kids how to turn eggshells into sidewalk chalk! To make your chalk, grind 10 dry eggshells until they become a fine powder. Add two teaspoons of flour and hot water to make a stiff paste. Add food dye and mix in. Roll your chalk into a tube shape or use ice cube molds to create fun shapes. Let the chalk dry for a few days. Then it\u2019s ready to use outside! How does this work? Eggshells contain calcium, the same material that makes chalk.<\/p>\n

Women in Cuisine: Bake and Decorate Cupcakes<\/u><\/p>\n

Kids love cupcakes! Get them involved in the baking process and teach them about measuring ingredients. Bake your favorite cupcake flavor and express your creativity decorating.<\/p>\n

Women in Engineering: Build a Toy Slide from Recycled Materials<\/u><\/p>\n

Challenge kids to make a toy slide out of recycled materials at home. For example, cut a pool noodle in half and lean it against furniture. Then put a toy car down the slide. Try doing the same thing but turn it into a water slide with water. Pour water down and see if the water will carry the toy to the bottom. You can also use recycled materials like cardboard, plastic milk jugs, paper towel rolls, and plastic bottles. This engineering activity will help teach kids about gravity and construction. It may also inspire a little girl to dream about becoming an engineer!<\/p>\n

Women in Politics: Run for President of the United States<\/u><\/p>\n

Learn about being president with this pretend play activity. Create a podium from cardboard. Craft a \u201ckid president\u201d badge to wear. Then give a speech verbally or write a speech about this topic: As president, I would do\u2026 You can also create a voting box from a tissue box and have family members cast their vote for family president. These activities help teach kids about the election process and the responsibilities of the president. Because the United States has never had a female president, it\u2019s more important than ever to nurture girls\u2019 dreams and teach them to reach high\u2014to the presidency or beyond!<\/p>\n
