Find the Best Gifts for Grandpa on Father’s Day

Finding Father’s Day gifts for grandpa can be tricky. Most Father’s Day gifts are designed with dads, not grandfathers, in mind. We’ve got a few ideas that will bring a smile to papa’s face—and maybe a happy tear to his eye.

Fingerprint Keychains

The most treasured Father’s Day gifts for grandpa are homemade crafts. These little keychains will remind Gramps of the grandkids every time he reaches for his keys. You’ll need:

  • A ¾-inch wide ball of oven-bake clay
  • One keychain ring
  • One large jump ring (10-12mm)
  • A small, solid cylindrical object (nail polish bottles work well)
  • One toothpick
  • Dark-colored ink pad
  • Metal cookie sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • 3-in-1 jewelry pliers (any small pliers will do in a pinch).

Roll the cylindrical object over the clay to make an oval slightly larger than your child’s thumb. Press the child’s thumb onto the ink pad, then onto the clay to transfer an inky fingerprint. Let the clay sit for a few minutes as the ink dries.

Using the toothpick, make a hole at the top of the oval clay. The hole must be large enough to insert the jump ring after baking the clay.

Heat the oven to the temperature recommended on the oven-bake clay instructions. Cover the cookie sheet with parchment paper, and bake the clay for the time specified in the instructions—usually between fifteen and twenty minutes.

Let the clay cool, then thread the jump ring through the hole you made with the toothpick, closing the jump ring with the pliers. Thread the jump ring through the keychain ring, and you’ve got an unforgettable gift for Grandpa.

Baby Butt Posters

Grandpas are going to receive their share of hand and footprint crafts as your child grows. Give him something different with this cheeky baby butt gift. All you need is:

  • Cardstock
  • Paper plate
  • Paper towel
  • Bright paint
  • The bathtub (seriously, you’ll need this!)

Squeeze some paint onto the paper plate, and use the paper towel to pat paint all over the little one’s bum (this is much easier with two people—one to pat paint, the other to hold the baby).

Sit the baby on the cardstock, and pick her back up. You’ll have made an adorable baby bum print. Now get the little one to the bathtub and clean her up.

Write or paint a fun message on the cardstock, such as “Carson loves his Papa, no Butts about it.” You can frame the cardstock for a lasting, silly gift.

My Super-Bestest Grandpa

The best Father’s Day gifts for Grandpa celebrate the special bond he shares with his grandchild. My Super-Bestest Grandpa does just that. Customized to reflect grandpa’s interests, this colorful illustrated book includes the names of both grandfather and child, and can include a family photo on the dedication page. It’s a story Grandpa and grandkid will love reading together, time after time.

A Special Day

The greatest gift a grandpa receives is the love of his grandchildren. This Father’s Day, why not arrange a special Grandpa and grandchild day. A trip to the zoo, a picnic, or a ball game are all wonderful opportunities for grandpas to bond and have fun with grandchildren.
